"If you're still working on an assumption from a few years ago that Macs are too expensive and a PC is far better value, do yourself a favour and do a feature-by-feature analysis comparing a Macbook to the latest from HP, Toshiba or Dell (they'll be the ones in the Harris Technology catalogue with memorable names like GXA-5456a). I guarantee that you'll find in an even-featured match that the Mac stacks up well.

If it is still a little more expensive, don't forget to factor in your time to help your friend remove all the trialware that comes preinstalled as standard, and the extra cost for your friend to keep their anti-malware subscription up-to-date. Also toss in 3-4 hours of $100 per hour on-site tech-support for the year, for the few weeks you go on holidays to Queensland and your friend desperately needs help.

Apple releases Final Cut Studio 2

<dc:subject>Front Page</dc:subject>

Apple has begun shipping Final Cut Studio 2, the video and film editing software thats becoming industry standard thanks to very fine features previously unavailable in video systems under $100,000.

Final Cut Studio 2 contains the new Final Cut Pro 6.0, a new edition of Motion, a new edition of Soundtrack Pro and a new application named Color.

Many of the features in Final Cut Studio are to an extent possible in Apples consumer oriented suite iLife, for example, Garageband is perfectly suited for adding soundtracks and narration to video files of the mpeg4 or mov variety, also iMovie HD provides some of the special effects, cutting, splicing and transition effects that Final Cut Pro offers.

The simple way to learn if Final Cut Studio is right for you is to ttry using iLife for your video production needs, if you feel you're bumping your head off ceilings then I heartily recommend picking up a copy of Final Cut Studio at the Apple store, of course you can find it on amazon too, but either of these places are great because they offer long return policies (check what they are before purchasing) and allow you to change your mind after a week or two of using the software.

I'd love to hear success stories from people using iLife or Final Cut to make movies, so if you have some, email me, brendan@auburncom.com.

Apples stock continues to hit new highs, the iPhone is discovered browsing macrumors.com!

<dc:subject>Front Page</dc:subject>

As Apples stock continues to soar, the Apple iPhone is already browsing the web, webmasters have discovered in their apache logs visits from web browsers identifying themselves as iPhone native. Be careful with all your investments and remember not to take stock recommendations from AuburnCom as we are invested in Apple and aren't financial advisers, go talk to chuck before any deals!

Update: Actually, it's almost $112 dollars now!

AuburnCom clients are always pleased with the individual attention paid to their case, Clients are free to choose their level of involvement in the Apple Maintenance, AuburnCom provides Mac Consulting and troubleshooting with Full service support for Macs from the 1980's to todays blazing fast Intel Macs.

Continue reading for excerpts from the Chronicle article on computer maintenance service and quality in San Francisco, my favorite quote is by Robert Krughoff, president of the Bay Area Consumers' Checkbook, who correctly summarizes a computers place in modern society by saying "People are more dependent on computers and they feel very strongly about their computers, You don't want it slow in getting back to you or not fixed when it comes back.

..."In a study of 59 repair stores by Bay Area Consumers' Checkbook, CompUSA, Fry's Electronics and Best Buy all scored near the bottom based on overall performance and quality of service.

...-- Best Buy, which makes repairs through its Geek Squad division, received an overall performance rating for five local stores of 73 percent, with 43 percent of respondents giving the company a superior rating.

If your Power Mac G5 fails to start up after the power button has been pressed and your computer's serial number is within the noted ranges, your computer may be eligible for repair, free of charge.

...If Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) determines that your Power Mac G5 computer is eligible as part of the program, the power supply repair will be covered by Apple for up to two years from the original date of purchase even if your Power Mac G5 is out of warranty.

...An Apple technical support representative or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) will need to examine the power supply within your computer to determine if the component failure identified for the Power Mac G5 Repair Extension Program for Power Supply Issues affects your computer and, if so, arrange for the repair, free of charge.

...Apple or an AASP can help you troubleshoot these issues, but if your Power Mac G5 is not covered under warranty or an extended service agreement, such as the AppleCare Protection Plan, repairs, if requested, will be at your own expense.
